Pop-up village 2026

We are bringing 30 families to Semur-en-Auxois, a vibrant medieval town in the heart of Burgundy, for a month long popup village. Together we will experience French living, community life, and the next steps in the Revillage vision.

Why we are creating a popup village

Revillage began with a simple idea: family life gets lighter when community is built into everyday routines. Not a gated project or an app — just walkable days, shared spaces, and spontaneous moments where kids roam and adults connect naturally.

Why a popup, and why now

  • Prototype real life: A one-month stay lets us test daily rhythms—meals, play, errands, and unplanned encounters—without over-programming.

  • Learn with a living town: We’re not building from scratch. Semur-en-Auxois already has culture, cafés, nature, and young families. We’re here to contribute, not to impose.

  • Families first: Proximity and simple rituals can reduce stress and loneliness more than big plans.

What we’re testing

  • Social fabric: What touchpoints per week feel natural and inclusive for locals and visiting families?

  • Spaces that invite connection: Courtyards, café corners, a community kitchen, the lake—where do people actually gather?

  • A rhythm that respects life: Light programming plus plenty of free time.

  • Pathways to permanence: Could this model evolve into a respectful, long-term presence?

Why here, why KOS

Semur-en-Auxois is big enough to be alive, small enough to be knowable. KOS brings place knowledge and local relationships; Revillage brings a community of families and a clear vision. Together we can make it grounded and welcoming.

How we’ll approach it

  • Start by listening to locals

  • Design small, weekly anchor moments

  • Keep events porous and open

  • Measure what matters: Did people linger? Did kids form a pack?

Success looks like this

  • Families leave lighter and more connected

  • Locals feel included and curious to continue

  • We leave positive relationships—and a practical blueprint for what’s next

In short: the popup is our real-world testbed for a future, rooted Revillage. Join us in September 2026 to help shape it.

A unique partnership

Nikolaj and Michelle

Prior to having kids Nikolaj and Michelle was running Refuga, a travel agency for entrepreneurs. A project that had them travel with over 500 people and 50 nationalities to beautiful retreat places and places like Kilimanjaro, Elbrus and North Korea.

After having kids, they launched Traveling Village, a co-created concept where 20 families travel together for 4 months organized in workgroups. The experience of a family in a community was challenging and rewarding, and convinced them work more in that field.

While Nikolaj and Michelle keeps building Traveling Villages, the first TV experience made them sure they wanted to create a permanent community too.

Noé Marguillard

Noé is the founder of Kos, a French company that is developing a new generation of co-housing in vibrant village centres. Currently Noé is working with Ecofaubourgs, who are turning the historic ‘Cité Bahut’ school site in Semur-en-Auxois into a vibrant, mixed-use district with new homes, shared activity spaces, local services and community-friendly public areas.

Nóe has worked in the field of coliving, community and rural revitalization for 5 years and two years ago he moved to Semur-en-Auxois full-time from Paris. In Semur-en-Auxois Noé will be our local anchor who will help the Revillage community connect with the local community, create unique experiences and housing opportunities.
