Our mission with Revillage is to create a community of families who move to the same declining village. If done right, Revillage can serve as a thoughtful model for revitalizing villages.

With population decline in many rural areas, villages face increasing challenges. Maintaining services and infrastructure becomes more expensive, making it even harder to attract new residents.

A Community-First Approach to Rural Revitalization

Many programs and initiatives focus on rural revitalization. Our approach is to put community first by creating an incredible environment for families, making life easier and more fulfilling. We believe that a thriving community will naturally lead to positive changes.

With a community-first approach and a focus on building a permanent, well-integrated community, Revillage could be an alternative to government incentives or short-term tourism-driven solutions. We hope the Revillage model can go beyond a single village and serve as a sustainable blueprint for rural renewal.

What Revillage Can Bring to a Village

A Committed Community

Through our other project, Traveling Village, we have seen how strong communication and clear values attract like-minded people. By emphasizing the principles we want to bring into this project, we can attract families who are genuinely interested in contributing to the local community. These families will bring a diverse range of skills, businesses, and ideas to the village.

Increased Local Economic Activity

Bringing 100-150 people to a village would generate significant economic activity for local businesses and services. It could also create opportunities for new businesses to emerge and thrive.

Revitalization of Empty Homes and Spaces

Our approach prioritizes restoring existing buildings before constructing new ones. We aim to encourage the use of local materials and labor, fostering economic and cultural sustainability.

Social and Cultural Flourishing

New families bring fresh energy to local events, traditions, and social life. We want to collaborate with locals to create initiatives, shared spaces, and community events that benefit both new and existing residents.

Long-Term Stability and Growth

Revillage could help position the village as an attractive destination for families and remote workers, ensuring long-term population stability. By focusing on families seeking permanent relocation, we aim to create lasting progress rather than relying on short-term tourism initiatives.

Attracting Local People From Nearby Cities

If we successfully create a desirable environment for families, we hope that people from nearby cities—especially those with roots in the village—will be more inclined to move (back). While remote and hybrid work remain challenges for many, Revillage could help facilitate solutions or encourage larger companies to allow more flexible work options.

It All Depends on the Village

These ideas are ambitious, but we believe they are achievable. Ultimately, success will depend on the specific village and the people involved. While we see many potential benefits, there will undoubtedly be opportunities and challenges we haven't yet considered.

Every village has unique characteristics, and our approach is to adapt accordingly, working closely with local communities. This project can only succeed if we integrate well with local residents and create value for both new families and the existing population.

Is This Interesting for Your Village?
